My feature film, Chasing The Southern Sun, has gained a lot of momentum as Michael Veltman and myself started to get some good footage the past few weeks. I was lucky enough to link up with Michael and do trips around Cape Town allowing me to get in some good water time. Michael has also been working hard at university trying to get his final semester of studies completed before he begins his travels abroad. It is looking promising that he will be heading to Hawaii in 2017/2018 as he is looking to get some filming done there. This will be an awesome opportunity for us to work together on a clip that will be the after feature of Chasing The Southern Sun.

This day at Hoek we decided to make a late mission and get some waves. We left Somerset West at about 2pm not knowing what to expect. When we got to the beach the waves were small but fun. Knowing that the tide would be dropping, we decided to head out for some late afternoon fun. Windy and washy, I managed to pick off some of the good ones and scored some amazing clips with Michael capturing the sunset as it fell below the clouds. This was the end to a another good day of filming and wave.

The following day we heading back down to Noordhoek to find some more waves. On the arrival it was clear that the swell had grown and we should head somewhere a little different. We walked and walked for what seemed miles until we were greeted by some insane waves grinding along the sand bar. It was there that we set up the cameras and prepared for a morning of waves. Running into the water I noticed that riding here would be no easy feat. Waves were smashing the bank unleashing a whirl of currents and water that we had to fight to get through. Once out, the view was picturesque with barrels running as long as you could see from the top of the apex into the shallow sandbar. Photographer Ryan Janssens joined us on the mission and I am happy to say he snagged an incredible shot from the day, of my second wave.

Putting a cream on top again we were blessed with some of the best conditions we could hope for. 3 hours later, multiple duck dives, a few good waves and some photos and video clips we headed back to the car. We were ecstatic while Michael flicked through his camera showing us his clips from our session. Another good day at a newer spot that we had yet to film.
